HARIBO CELEBRATES ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY

In December 2020, it will have been exactly 100 years since Hans Riegel senior founded his family business Haribo – which stands for HAns RIegel BOnn. Today, the third generation manages the company, which is considered the leader on the global market for fruit gums and liquorice. According to company statements, 99 percent of people in Germany are familiar with the company name – not least due to the advertising slogan, created in 1935 and still used in Germany today: Haribo macht Kinder froh, which translates to Haribo makes children happy. Now, the confectionery company is renowned far beyond German borders. The first dancing bear fruit gum was manufactured in 1922. Since then, this famous and patented fruit gum figure has steadily increased in popularity and is now known as the gold-bear; today (status: 2020), approx. 160 million gold-bears are sold around the world every day.

HARIBO PACKAGING THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

The company never changed the content of its gold-bear packaging, however, it has adapted the layout to meet societal trends throughout the years:

SPECIAL PACKAGING EDITIONS FOR EASTER

The anniversary isn’t the only thing that Haribo is celebrating: The company also has something special planned for Easter. Since February, customers have been able to purchase various Haribo special editions with packaging that not only protects the sweet content but is a decorative highlight to boot.

The company offers a colourful 210 gram Easter egg filled with mini packs of fruit gums, a pillow pack printed with Easter greetings as well as packaging that consumers can decoratively hang on their doors. 200 gram gift packaging shaped like chicks and lambs has been filled with gold-bears, whilst Easter baskets come in sport practical carrier handles. Meringue eggs are available in 175 gram standard bags, 250 gram stand-up pouches and reusable round tins.
